The Washington Redskins are, to say the least, a struggling football team right now. After starting quarterback Robert Griffin III went down with an injury, his back-up Kirk Cousins stepped in and had a few pretty solid games, including throwing over 400 yards and three TD’s in a close loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 3.
But the following week against the New York Giants, things began to take a turn for the worse for Cousins, who threw four interceptions in a blowout loss. Then, Cousins threw three more picks in a loss to the Cardinals this past Sunday. So the question of course is why is Cousins throwing the ball away so much? Redskins coach Jay Gruden says that he himself is also searching for the answer to that question.
“I don’t know. If I knew, I wouldn’t call those plays,” Gruden said, via the Tennessean. “They’ve come in bunches. The fourth quarters haven’t been very good to us and I think those are the most important times for us to make plays and get the win. I don’t know if he’s forcing them too much or just maybe hesitating on a couple of them. Sometimes you force them, sometimes you just miss the throws. . . . Some of it’s an accuracy issue, some of it’s a footwork issue, some of them are just not believing in what he’s seeing, and some of them are forced.”
With RG3 out for the foreseeable future, the Skins and Cousins better figure out what the issue is and they better do it quickly if they have any hopes of salvaging this season.
