And it begins.
There’s always an adjustment period when you totally revamp a downtrodden franchise with two new Superstars.
Add in the fact that the biggest star is LeBron James, and you can see the difficulty in that. Kevin Love has always wanted to play for a winner, but can he truly sacrifice the superstar numbers for playoff trips?
With James and Kyrie Irving doing their normal thing, Love has struggled to find his niche this preseason. Add in Dion Waiters penchant for leading the team in shots, and you can see what is starting to happen.
Love told Chris Haynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer that he’d like to work his game inside out, with more touches coming down on the low block.
“My entire life I’ve played the game from inside-out,” Love explained to NEOMG. “So the more touches I can get inside to get myself going, the better. I’m not accustomed to starting out a game shooting a three, so it’s just something that I see.
“I’m 26-years-old and I’ve been playing basketball for quite a long time. Just finding ways to mix it up. If anything, keeping it around the basket a little bit more and the offense will allow me to get offensive rebounds. That will be tough for teams with Andy [Varejao] and myself and Tristan [Thompson] in there.”
Love is no longer the top scoring option on his team. Some nights he may not even be the second. Can he handle getting most of his scoring opportunities at the line or on put back opportunities?
Only time will tell.
Chris Bosh is somewhere laughing hysterically right now.
