Nobody knows who Floyd Mayweather will fight except for Floyd Mayweather, but some people in his camp, notably Mayweather Sr., has a lot to say on the subject. The latest coming from Sr is a guarantee that his son will fight Manny Pacquiao. Sr makes sure he says several times that his son has told him nothing about his, but then follows it with “mark my words.”
“That fight’s gonna happen. Trust me. That fight’s definitely gonna happen,” Floyd Sr. said in an interview with fighthype.com. “It’s a fight for the world, man, right there. It’s the biggest fight that has ever been in life, so like I said man, that fight’s gonna happen.
“I’ma tell you right now, (Mayweather Jr.) never told me the fight’s gonna happen, but I’ma tell you, the fight’s gonna happen. You mark my words and we’ll see. And it needs to happen. Just like (Muhammad) Ali and Joe Frazier, or Ali and George Foreman, something like that, man, it’s one of those fights like that. The world wants to see it and they’ll want to see it again when Floyd beats Pacquiao.”
Sadly enough, this guarantees nothing. For years, fans have been teased with the thought of a Mayweather/Pacquiao fight, and the only fighting that has ever happened is an occasional social media trash talk here or some random verbal ranting there. The main reason is the money. Neither side can agree, so the fans casually watch and wait as both fighters draw near to the end of their boxing careers.
