Vick is doing a lot of what I call old man talking. He seems to be reflecting more on his career in the past tense. Makes you wonder if he has the passion to play anymore. Here is what he had to say about not preparing the way he should have last week.
“I felt like I, for some reason, being a quarterback in his 12th year, sometimes you take things for granted,” he told ESPN New York. “I think I took the scout team for granted…Maybe I didn’t prepare or I wasn’t prepared, but let me tell you, it won’t happen again.”
“I try to let Matt Simms get as many reps as he can,” he said. “Being a young, growing quarterback, he’s trying to develop as well, and I understand how important it is for him, so we split reps and I still won’t be selfish in that regard. I’ll still allow Matt to get reps, and just take full advantage of mine and work on the small things, movement in the pocket, my presence, accuracy, everything the quarterback position entails.”
“I learned my lesson last week: Always stay ready, always be prepared,” he said.
It wasn’t like Geno Smith was playing like Joe Montana and then got hurt. Vick had to know considering the way Geno had been playing that his time was coming sooner than later, which makes his comments even more curious.
Just a bad situation all the way around for Jets.
