LeBron James return to the Cleveland Cavaliers (along with the addition of Kevin Love) has brought plenty of high expectations to the city and franchise for the first time since, well LeBron left the Cavaliers. Many believe that it’s only a matter of time until James raises the Larry O’Brien trophy in a Cavs uniform.
But it’s not just team expectations that are high for James. With a young roster surrounding LeBron, Love and Kyrie Irving, the four-time MVP is expected to take on a heavy workload helping everyone adjust to their new-found expectations. Because of this many consider James the favorite to win this seasons MVP award. In a poll of NBA GM’s released by the league, nearly two-thirds of all GM’s responded by picking LeBron to take home the award over last season’s winner Kevin Durant.
Who will win the 2014-15 MVP?
1. LeBron James, Cleveland — 67.9%
2. Kevin Durant, Oklahoma City — 21.4%
Also receiving votes: Carmelo Anthony, New York; Blake Griffin, L.A. Clippers; Chris Paul, L.A. Clippers
Last year: LeBron James — 69.0%
High expectations aren’t exactly new to James, but it will be interesting to see how he meshes with his new teammates and if they can come together quickly enough to win a title.
