Darrelle Revis is looking to do work against his former team, from both sides of the football. Leave it up to Bill Belichick to devise such an uncanny 2-way scheme, which could have the star CB playing against the Jets’ vaunted secondary.
When asked about the change in position for the Thursday Night game, Revis said he was open to it–no pun intended.
“I mean, I’m very confident in catching balls. I know that,” Revis said. “We’ve got some great receivers on this team. Usually, when something happens like that, it’s the depth chart, maybe injuries. Knock on wood, I hope we don’t get to that point. “But if there was an opportunity, if Bill came to me and said we need help, I’m willing to do whatever coach says. And that’s any position. That’s just what it is. We get asked to do some crazy things sometimes. Whatever coach needs me to play, I’ll be up for the challenge.”
This plan is outrageous, even for the always scheming Belichick who has a history of this; this is clearly a personal move on Revis’ part. What other reason could there be for taking still arguably the best corner if not just in the AFC but the League, out of his natural position to play offense against an offensively challenged team like the Jets. Revis wants to put on a show against them as revenge after they sent him packing to Tampa.
Of course, Revis has experience playing receiver, he played it in high school and college, but Revis or no Revis, the Pats with Brady under center don’t exactly have problems scoring. Revis then added:
“I got a knack for just being a ball hawk,” Revis told the Herald. “You’ve got to have certain skill sets to see where the ball’s at in the air, high point it, at the best time when the ball’s coming down. When the ball’s coming down, I just try to turn into a receiver and try to catch it and come down with the ball.”
Let’s see if Belichick is really gutsy enough to go through with this.
