The Buffalo Bills have lost their last two games, after starting 2-0. There’s many reasons for their recent struggles, but EJ Maniel is right at the top of that list.
The 24-year old quarterback has allegedly had difficulties learning the offense and he isn’t the most accurate passer down the field. Manuel’s poor play forced Bills head coach Doug Marrone to make a change.
“Kyle Orton is our starting QB right now,” Marrone said, via the team. “We need more overall production from that position. … We came in today, looked at the tape and made a decision that gives us the best opportunity to win.”
Bills rookie receiver Sammy Watkins is excited about the switch.
“Today went pretty good with Kyle starting. We just had a different approach to practice. He demands what he wants out of us, we just have to do the same, be on the same page and practice hard.
“He’s more of a veteran guy. The way he talks, the way he handles business, the way he look at plays and break down defenses is kind of different than EJ. He reads it quicker, the balls coming out faster. That’s just some things that we have to adjust to.
“Right now, we don’t know what’s going to happen. He hasn’t been hit yet, he hasn’t had live bullets at him. Everything could look great in practice but you never know what’s going to take place in the game. I feel like he’s ready, he’s getting prepared. He’s demanding us what he wants out of routes. You need to be there. I just can’t wait to get in a game with him.
“He’s a 10-year vet, so he knows what to expect. I’m pretty sure he knows what Mike can do, what I can do, what Robert can, and how fast everybody can run. So far he’s been doing a great job.”
“Since we have a 10-year vet, a guy that can get the ball down the field, now it’s on the wideouts. I expect I have to come out every play, every down and expect the ball. Can’t wait to play the game.”
If you read between the lines, Watkins is certainly praising Orton in areas he feels Manuel is lacking in.
