The Browns can’t force Johnny Manziel to be in bed by midnight. He is a grown man and he is entitled to do whatever he wants when he isn’t at the facilities. With that being said when you have a spotlight on you as bright as Manziel, you have to do some risk/reward analysis about what you do with your evenings and I believe that is what the Browns are trying to stress to Manziel.
Pettine said on Mike & Mike that he wishes Manziel were at home in bed at that hour.
“We’re never comfortable . . . with guys being involved in incidents that late at night,” Pettine said. “There’s a saying in the league, ‘Nothing good happens after midnight.’”
“I’ve had a talk with Johnny,” Pettine said. “He was very up-front with us and notified us immediately when it occurred. As far as in the building, he’s been a true professional, he’s done everything that’s been asked of him, but obviously this is something that’s unfortunate.”
Manziel is a lightening rod and he doesn’t seem that self aware at times. I think people would like to see him succeed, but for the time being a lower profile would benefit him greatly.
