Former Bears QB Bob Avellini has been sentenced to 18 months in prison due to multiple DUI arrests.
Avellini, who has been arrested for drunk driving six times since 2002, was just nine days into a sentence of probation for a previous DUI conviction when he was pulled over and found with a blood-alcohol content almost twice the legal limit in September 2013. That arrest led to a felony conviction.
Avellini says that his self-destructive behavior is due to the multiple concussions he suffered while playing in the NFL. He says that the concussions have caused him to be severely depressed and the depression has led to his drinking problems. Avellini is listed as a plaintiff in the NFL concussion lawsuit.
