JCC is in a contract dispute with Top Rank. JCC believes he is a free agent, while Top Rank believes he owes them one more fight.
They are fighting in court, but in the interim JCC has signed with the most powerful adviser in boxing Al Haymon.
Former middleweight titlist Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., one of boxing’s most popular fighters, has signed with powerful adviser Al Haymon, one of Chavez’s closest associates told ESPN.com on Monday night.
Chavez’s signing with Haymon sets up an inevitable battle between two of boxing’s most powerful figures: Haymon and Top Rank promoter Bob Arum, Chavez’s promoter. Haymon and Arum have had a rancorous relationship since Haymon’s No. 1 client, Floyd Mayweather Jr., left Top Rank several years ago. Arum has always blamed Haymon for engineering the move.
Because of the signing no one knows who or when JCC will fight again or what network it will be on.
