I should say I am surprised, but I am not. The police don’t seem that almared or care that an unarmed person was killed (said they would do it again). This has nothing to do with if Michael Brown was a good or bad person or even a criminal. Criminals who are 100s of feet away from cops with no weapons are supposed to go to jail, not the grave. None of that seems to matter to the police, who unbelievably are asking for the Rams players in question to be punished according to this statement via KSDK.
The St. Louis Police Officers Association is profoundly disappointed with the members of the St. Louis Rams football team who chose to ignore the mountains of evidence released from the St. Louis County Grand Jury this week and engage in a display that police officers around the nation found tasteless, offensive and inflammatory.
The SLPOA is calling for the players involved to be disciplined and for the Rams and the NFL to deliver a very public apology. Roorda said he planned to speak to the NFL and the Rams to voice his organization’s displeasure tomorrow. He also plans to reach out to other police organizations in St. Louis and around the country to enlist their input on what the appropriate response from law enforcement should be. Roorda warned, “I know that there are those that will say that these players are simply exercising their First Amendment rights. Well I’ve got news for people who think that way, cops have first amendment rights too, and we plan to exercise ours. I’d remind the NFL and their players that it is not the violent thugs burning down buildings that buy their advertiser’s products. It’s cops and the good people of St. Louis and other NFL towns that do. Somebody needs to throw a flag on this play. If it’s not the NFL and the Rams, then it’ll be cops and their supporters.”
Jeff Roorda who is the head of the SLPOA was fired from the Arnold police force for filing false reports in 1997 & again in 2001 according to Big Lead. He also was the Vice President of a charity that did fundraiser for Darren Wilson. So, he isn’t exactly the most unbiased person. He doesn’t want police to use body cameras or want cameras to be used to show police corruption.
Once again it shows you how out of touch the police are with the community. Either they are incredibly naive on why people are afraid of them or they just don’t care, it is probably the latter. No matter what it is, statements like this is why many people, specifically African-American males will always fear the police. Roorda appears to care far more about protecting rogue cops like he once was, then finding justice. Once a crooked cop, always a crooked cop.
Just think about this logically, they used to words tasteless, offensive and inflammatory to describe a protest that is about surrendering and asking not to be shot when a person is unarmed, that is what the police finds offensive. HOW SWAY???
As KRS-One once said, they are supposed to protect us, but who is protecting us from them?
*UPDATE*
The NFL released a statement in part saying they won’t be punishing anyone.
“We respect and understand the concerns of all individuals who have expressed views on this tragic situation,” the NFL said in a statement to The News.
