The Dallas Cowboys may be forced to decide between Dez Bryant and DeMarco Murray, or alienating both of them.
Bryant and Murray are in the final year of their contracts, meaning that the Cowboys can’t place the franchise tag on both.
Ian Rapoport is reporting that the Cowboys are more likely to tag Bryant than Murray if it comes to that this offseason.
NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported on NFL GameDay First on Sunday morning that the team is more likely to tag Bryant than Murray if it comes to that this offseason.
Rapoport added that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones had a quick, cursory, introductory meeting with Bryant’s new agents with Roc Nation, but there is still a long way to go in the negotiations.
As Rapoport reported last week, the Cowboys’ offers to this point have come well below Bryant’s market value.
Tagging Bryant has always been Dallas’ trump card in negotiations and they won’t hesitate making the move, even if that means they have to let Murray test the market. One more reason to tag Dez? Per Rapoport, it would guarantee he’s on the team but without the long-term committment and money in case of another off-the-field incident.
