Canelo Alvarez is not backing down from his, “Taking the Mexican holidays back from Mayweather,” statement. He’s officially confirmed that he will fight twice in 2015. Once on May 2nd (Cinco De Mayo Weekend) and again on September 12th (Mexican Independence Day weekend).
“As I’ve said and I’ll say it again. I am going to fight on May 2 and I’m not going to move from the date. Everything being maneuvered is to fight on May 2 and September 12, and I’m not going to back away from those dates for nothing,” Alvarez said during a radio interview in Mexico.
Oscar De La Hoya is fully behind his young superstar; even if it means alienating Floyd Mayweather:
“There is no secret here that Canelo Alvarez wants to fight in May, on May 2. Now if Mayweather wants to fight, it must be April or June perhaps,” De La Hoya said.
It seems as though the next move belongs to Floyd Mayweather. Will pride make him hold steady to those dates or will he concede the dates to the younger fighter and fight a week later?
I say Floyd and Canelo fight for it; a rematch to see who fights on those dates from here on out. A little WWE-ish, I know, but its honestly the best fight either guy could make at this point.
