After having a dismal 3-12 season thus far, there have been several talks that time will most likely be up for Rex Ryan in New York. Coaching changes are always a tough thing for players to adjust to, especially when they’ve grown accustomed to their current staff. Jets QB Geno Smith, who went through a coaching change in college, offered some insight as to how the players may react if Ryan was to be relieved of his coaching duties.
“It is all about what you make it,” Smith said of a coaching change, when asked about his experience at West Virginia. “I think the toughest part about it is not being able to continue to play for the same coach, the same guy that you learned to love, you invest so much in, and you believe (in) them. To reset and readjust is a tough thing to do, but we are professionals and we have to do it. A change could be good for us all. So if it happens, when it happens, then we will see.”
When Smith went through the coaching change in college, the new offense brought in by Dana Holgorsen proved to be a good thing for him. He thrived, and it eventually led to him being a second round draft pick. Maybe the same could happen for Smith with a new Jets coach.
