Johnny Manziel told the media on Tuesday it would be unfair for the Browns to write him off after playing about seven quarters of NFL football in his rookie year.
His head coach Mike Pettine agreed, and said Manziel shouldn’t be judged on a few plays. Pettine said Manziel would be in the mix next season, but he didn’t guarantee Johnny a starting spot.
“He’s a player on our roster,” Pettine said. “He’ll have the chance to compete.”
“It’s been a year of growing up for me,” Manziel said. “It’s a job for me now. I have to take it a lot more seriously than maybe I did at first.”
Pettine’s approach with Manziel hasn’t changed from the day the Browns drafted Johnny Football. I believe Manziel has a year, tops, to get his act together.
