At age 34, Mike Vick is dealing with the fact that his contract with the Jets is up after the season over and wondering where he can play next. Vick firmly believes that he can still be the face of an NFL franchise, despite a less than memorable season with the Jets. Vick says that he’s open to playing for an organization that wants to win, but, of course, the DC area is home to him.
“That’s home,” he said. “That’s home for me. Don’t get me excited. Don’t get me excited.”
“I’m open to playing for anybody that wants to win,” Vick said. “But obviously, going back home, I mean, that’ll be a dream come true. But I would hate to get my hopes up for something that wouldn’t happen. So I can’t even think about it right now.”
Vick thinks his connection with Desean Jackson would make him a perfect fit for the Redskins.
“I know his speed, I know his acceleration path, I know when he’s coming out of his breaks,” Vick said. “There’s nobody that knows DeSean Jackson better than me.”
This may be true, but Vick still has a lot to prove other than the fact that he feels he understands a team’s arguably best wide receiver. With that being said, he isn’t limiting himself to just the Redskins. Vick will tell you himself that he still has what it takes to be a team’s franchise player.
“I can be the face of any franchise,” he said. “Hopefully, there will be an opportunity for me in 2015. And that’s what I’m looking forward to.”
Vick’s next move remains to be seen, but you can almost guarantee it won’t be with the Jets.
