Philip River is as tough a man who you’ll ever meet, but he may be on borrowed time for the remainder of the season and a possible playoff run.
Chris Mortensen is reporting that Rivers’s has been playing with a bulging disk in his lower back and that the quarterback may need to have surgery to repair the condition.
How gritty was Phillip Rivers' performance? Chargers QB has bulging disk in his lower back, per sources. Post-season surgery may be option

Mortensen was adamant that any such surgery woudn’t take place until after the season. Rivers is still a beast though and led the Chargers back for a 38-35 overtime win that saw him throw for 356 yards and four touchdowns to keep the Chargers alive and kicking in the playoff race.
