Weather forecasts are calling for a potential record snowfall in the Mid-Atlantic region from Monday into Tuesday.
A winter storm advisory issued by the National Weather Service projected between 1 and 3 feet of snow in the New York City area alone. New York City mayor Bill de Blasio has advised citizens to expect the worst.
“This could be the biggest snowstorm in the history of this city,” de Blasio told reporters. “My message for New Yorkers is prepare for something worse than we have ever seen before.”
