Ray Lewis went there. I’m not sure his assessment is accurate, but it has been echoed by other people besides Lewis. The former Ravens star linebacker was a guest on the Stephen A. Smith show recently.
The two men started to discuss a conversation about Dez Bryant’s near-catch on Sunday when the topic of other controversial calls and rules came up.
That prompted Lewis to bring up the infamous ‘Tuck Rule’ game against the Raiders that helped propel them to their first Super Bowl title in 2001.
At the 2:50 mark of the show, Lewis says “that Rule is the only reason we know who Tom Brady is today.”
“The only reason we know who Tom Brady is, because of a tuck rule! There’s no such thing as a tuck rule! If the ball is in your hand, and I knock it out your hand, whether it’s going backwards, forwards, lateral, sideways, however it’s coming out, that’s a freaking fumble!
“But guess what we created? We created a freaking tuck rule!”
I think Brady has stats, trophies and a few MVP’s that totally contradict Lewis’ statement. I’ll give Lewis the benefit of the doubt and say that maybe he meant that game got Tom Terrific rolling towards his Hall of Fame career.
