To steal a line from the Peaches & Herb 1978 classic hit, Reunited and it feels so good. The Atlanta Braves have decided to bring Fred McGriff back into the organization as a scout. They also have agreed to terms with ex-hitting coach Greg Walker. According to csnphilly.com, Atlanta’s president of baseball operations, John Hart, announced the hiring of McGriff and Walker as special assistance.
Fred McGriff played with the Braves from 1993-1997 and played a major part in helping the team win the 1995 World Series. The left-handed first baseman had a 19-year career, 5 all-star appearances, a career .284 average, 493 home runs and 1,550 RBIs. Walker served as the hitting coach for the past 3 years but stepped down after team ranked near the bottom of the league in runs scored, home runs and batting average.
McGriff is expected to focus on professional scouting during the season and Walker will work primarily with minor league hitters during spring training.
