The Browns are considering a veteran option to challenge Johnny Manziel next season.
It’s being reported by Nate Ulrich that the Browns are expected to pursue one of the better available quarterbacks in Josh McCown.
In 2007, McCown and new Browns offensive coordinator John DeFilippo worked together as members of the Oakland Raiders. DeFilippo was the Raiders’ quarterbacks coach at the time. McCown went 2-7 as a starter that season with 10 touchdown passes and 11 interceptions.
If the Browns sign McCown, it would likely signal the end of the Brian Hoyer era in Cleveland. Hoyer, who went 7-6 as a starter last season before being benched in December, is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent on March 10. Hoyer is seeking an opportunity to compete for a starting job.
