A lot went wrong with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2014 and Josh McCown was one of the many things that didn’t pan out for the team that will be picking first in this year’s draft. It is pretty much a lock that the Bucs will be taking Marcus Mariota or Jameis Winston with the first pick, and the team solidified those plans by releasing McCown today.

The team is expected to announce the release of McCown shortly. He went 1-10 as a starter after signing a two-year, $10-million deal.

McCown was shown the door as quickly as he walked through it in Tampa. While most didn’t expect him to be the long term answer, they didn’t expect things to go south as quickly as they did. Most of the pre-combine buzz has Jameis Winston staying in the state of Florida and heading to Tampa, but there is still a long way to go before that draft card has to be submitted.
