Coming off a six month suspension from competitive swimming Michael Phelps is eyeballing his return to competition in Arizona during the Arena Pro Swim Series – Mesa April 15th-18th we learn from SwimSwam.com.
Following a September arrest for DUI, Phelps was suspended six months which comes to an end on April 7, 2015.
Phelps has recently began training for the event in Mesa, and at a recent promotional event for new sponsor Aqua Sphere he describes his excitement in regards to preparing the upcoming event:
“I’ve enjoyed, lately, more than I really ever have being back in the water,” Phelps said. “I haven’t had that kind of excitement that I had in a long time. It’s just me feeling I guess like me again. I’m trying to build back a base again.”
Though a separate portion of his suspension currently keeps him from participating in the World Championships, this is a step back in the right direction for Phelps, a major asset to USA Swimming.
