The Titans have the second overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, but they’re unlikely to pick one of the last two Heisman winners because they have bigger holes to fill.
According to Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean, the Titans are likely to keep Zach Mettenberger at starting quarterback, instead of drafting Jameis Winston or Marcus Mariota.
Wyatt said that “early indications” are that the team is “leaning toward” giving Mettenberger a chance to prove himself — while using the No. 2 overall pick on a possible weapon.
“We like Zach, and I think Zach has the tools to play and start in the league,” said Titans general manager Ruston Webster.
Webster added that the team would do its “due diligence” and evaluate both Winston and Mariota at the NFL Combine.
Mettenberger, a rookie last season, started six games — passing for 1,412 yards with eight touchdowns and seven interceptions.
