A lot of times with athletes and sometimes they even admit it (yes I am talking about KD) they are just saying what you want to hear. They act like robots and you are just getting the generic version of them. Russell Westbrook isn’t like that. He has this kinetic energy where he can’t help but be himself at all times. It is refreshing, sometimes it rubs people the wrong way, but in life when you are refreshingly honest that happens.
He has some Iverson vibes to him. Westbrook is blunt and his game on the court is just constant aggression and ferocity. He is a bigger more powerful version of A.I. (not quicker, because no one was quicker than A.I.).
In a game that was supposed to be an exhibition he literally took it by the throat and never let go.
Klay Thompson said it best.
“That guy’s motor is something else,” said West All-Star guard Klay Thompson of the Golden State Warriors. “You can’t teach it.”
For years people wanted KD’s mellowness to rub off on Russell, but it is Russell’s aggression that is rubbing off on KD. Sadly they have been both been hurt, so it has been sort of a lost season for Thunder.
With Westbrook under contract for two more years and KD for one, they might only have one more run at a title, but that is a discussion for another time. Tonight was Russell’s night where his stood out as the Star among Stars.
