Playing in a small market like Oklahoma City could be an issue for some NBA players to make money and land endorsements off the court but not for All-Star guard Russell Westbrook. Westbrook has landed his second national endorsement in recent days, this time with Mountain Dew. Westbrook will be the face of the Kickstart morning drink.
When asked was this about doing your own thing Westbrook told ESPN.com,
“That’s what I do”
This is a multiyear deal and ads will start running this weekend.
“Our brand is all about creativity, and Russell is always pushing the envelope. Since Mountain Dew doesn’t have an official deal with the NBA and can’t use its logos, the focus on Westbrook will be his on off the court innovation as a fashion icon pushing boundaries, said Jamal Henderson, Mountain Dew’s director of brand marketing.”
Kickstart, in 2014, only its second year on the market, grossed nearly $250 million in sales and sales increased 55 percent.
