The rumors of Wes Welker’s possible retirement has been greatly exaggerated. The Broncos wide receiver, who had a disastrous 2014 season, intends to suit up in 2015 at least that is according to a text he sent to the Denver Post.
Via Denver Post,
“Just getting ready for 2015,” Welker told The Denver Post via text. In reference to Welker mulling retirement, “Never ever came out of my mouth,” Welker said.
Welker turns 34 on May, 1 and will be an unrestricted free agent after completing a two-year deal he signed with Denver in 2013. It remains to be seen if Denver is interested in bringing Welker back or going younger and cheaper. Welker is still capable of being a productive player but with the amount of talent the Broncos have around Peyton Manning on offense, Welker may be better off just finding a new destination.
