The Chicago Bears will be signing former San Francisco 49ers DE Ray McDonald, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Chris Mortensen. McDonald was in the news last season as the NFL dealt with all of their issues concerning domestic violence. McDonald was charged with rape in San Francisco, but those charges were subsequently dropped after the prosecutor failed to find substantial evidence. McDonald even counter-sued his accuser for false accusation. With so much ire being made about the Dallas Cowboys signing Greg Hardy last week, it is surprising that the Bears acted so quickly on signing McDonald. At 6’4 and 315 pounds, and having 19.5 sacks in 59 games, McDonald would add great value and size to a reeling Chicago Bears defense. McDonald will be re-united with former 49ers defensive coordinator Vic Fangio in the Windy City. The football reasons why he was signed are very clear, but the message that it sends to NFL fans is just as muddled as ever before. I wonder if members of the media will bandwagon on the side against this signing too or does innocent until proven guilty not mean anything anymore?
