Aubrey Graham is definitely a winner to me now after this awesome gesture here in the city.
Back in late 2013, Drake surprised select Philadelphia community members with the news of a $75,000 donation for a music studio to be built at Strawberry Mansion High School.
Mansion is located in the heart of North Philadelphia (Meek Mill is a former student),and also sits in one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in the city.
The school completed construction on the studio last summer, but budgetary issues and the school’s reported reputation for violence made it difficult to find an instructor to teach music production to the students. After nearly a year of having a fully operational, but unused, studio on campus, Strawberry Mansion officials finally opened the doors to its students a few weeks ago.
The studio includes professional soundproofing, keyboards, computers, and additional equipment. Still the studio went mostly unused for a while, because many in the student population didn’t believe the equipment actually existed after being unable to use it for so long.
Drake’s contribution is likely to have a lasting affect on the community — worth far more than the $75K.
