Isaiah Thomas took a hard fall while driving to the hoop Monday night against the Heat. The resulting pain from his elbow and tail bone was so bad that the young guard said afterward he didn’t know if he’d be able to finish at first.
As you can see, the nasty collision occurred mid-flight to the basket against the heavier Dwyane Wade, who sent Thomas flying to the ground (185lbs vs. 220 lbs., you do the math). When asked of how he felt after the game, IT responded:
“I was just telling myself the pain was only temporary,” Thomas told reporters after the game, according to The Boston Globe. “If you don’t think about it, you can get through some things.”
Not only did he “get through”, Thomas helped seal another win for this Celtics team that currently sits just two games out of the final playoff spot. After this rough body-shot from Wade, he completed the layup and ensuing and-1 with under 4 minutes to go.
About a minute later, Thomas drilled a three to put his team up by 9 and help seal the win. In total, he finished with 25 points, 12 of which coming in the final period. The bad news came after the game when the realization came that they may be without him for a few games.
While Thomas got through the fourth quarter, there is some concern about him playing Wednesday night when the Celtics host the Memphis Grizzlies. Thomas said he would play if he was able to run, but he plans to have X-rays on his tailbone on Tuesday. He’ll likely be, at best, a game-time decision for Wednesday.
This Celtic team is in desperate need of some good news on the injury front so lets hope his X-rays come back negative. The man has averaged over 21 points per game since arriving in Boston, and has led the team to a 6-4 record while doing wonders for the fanbase’s morale.
We’ll be sure to provide you with any further updates as they’re developing.
