I don’t think Kevin Durant knows what he’s going to do when he hits free agency. What I find interesting about KD is that he seems to be in a constant state of internal conflict. It is like he is still trying to decide who he is, not so much on the court, but off the court.
I call it a mid-career crisis, similar to someone who is having a mid-life crisis. I think he is being 100% truthful in this quote, doesn’t mean he is staying, but at least for now, he hasn’t checked out mentally on OKC.
“I love it here, man. I love my teammates, I love the city, I don’t really think about anywhere else,” Durant told Revolt TV in a recent interview. “I hear it all the time, don’t get me wrong, and once you hear it you’re kind of like [looks up, thinking]. But for me, I love staying in the moment, and I’m one of those guys that would love to stick it out with one team my whole career.
“Kobe [Bryant], Tim Duncan, Dirk Nowitzki type. That’s awesome,” he said. “But you never know what the future holds sometimes and how teams may feel about you after a while, but I love it here and I would love to get my jersey retired here.”
The question begs can he win a title in OKC? I don’t think LeBron left Cleveland because he had something against Cleveland, but because he didn’t think he could win a title, soon as he won, he came right back.
We will have to wait and see what path KD goes on.
