Philadelphia Phillies ace left hander Cliff Lee is expected to miss his next start after experiencing more discomfort in his throwing elbow. Lee is expected to get a second opinion from Dr. James Andrews after getting examined by team doctors.
Philadelphia Phillies left-hander Cliff Lee will miss his scheduled start Tuesday after experiencing discomfort in his throwing elbow, the team announced Sunday.
Lee was limited to 13 starts in the 2014 season because of problems with the same elbow. He was sidelined for the final two months of the year with a flexor pronator strain.
According to the Phillies, Lee first reported the discomfort Friday – one day after throwing two scoreless innings in his first Grapefruit League start this spring. He had an MRI on Friday and was examined by Phillies team physician Michael Ciccotti. Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said there was “very mild inflammation” in Lee’s elbow.
“You have to be alarmed, we have to be concerned because it’s the same area and he feels something,” Amaro said. “It’s the same area, the same issues he had last year.”
Before he throws again, however, Lee will get a second opinion from Dr. James Andrews.
This isn’t good news for the Phillies’ ace who was limited during the 2014 season with injuries. With the season right around the corner, it is better to get this squared away sooner rather than later.
