Yesterday, I had the pleasure of attending the red carpet event for BET’s Black Girls Rock award show at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center. The event was star studded and filled with beautiful black women who are positive role models to women everywhere. The show was hosted by actresses Tracee Ellis Ross and Regina King. Honorees for the night were Jada Pinkett Smith, Erykah Badu, Cicely Tyson, Ava DuVernay, Nadia Lopez and Helene Gayle. The best part of the night, was the speech that First Lady Michelle Obama gave to young girls about continuing to pursue their education and ignoring voices telling them that they were ‘not good enough’. In a time where black women are always negatively portrayed on television, this show exhibits the positive things that black women have done and are doing. Black Girls Rock will air Sunday, April 5 at 7 pm on BET.
Tracee Ellis Ross was full of laughs and jokes on the red carpet. She’s been recently recording herself rapping on Instagram under the alias ‘T Murda’.
Estelle looked stunning on the red carpet and answered questions about her recent appearance on the hit show ‘Empire’.
Blogger, Karen Civil, shared her advice to young girls who may want to build a brand like she did.
Singer, Ciara, looked stunning in a black dress as she answered questions on the red carpet.
Willow, Jada, and Will Smith did a quick run through the red carpet waving and smiling at everyone.
Singer, Faith Evans, looked gorgeous as she told us who she was looking forward to seeing perform tonight.
Orange Is The New Black stars Vicky Jeudy and Danielle Brooks were so humble and sweet on the red carpet. They stopped and spoke with everyone about the upcoming season of OITNB and even took a few selfies with me.
Other stars on the red carpet were Lil Mama, Regina King, MC Lyte, BET CEO Deborah Lee, Janelle Monae, and Jill Scott.
