J Galvin is reporting that former Nebraska star and NFL running back, Lawrence Philips, is under investigation for allegedly murdering his cellmate in prison.

Phillips is suspected of murdering Damion Soward, 37, at 12:46 a.m. Saturday morning. Soward was serving 82-to-life for 1st degree murder.

Phillips, who played for the St. Louis Rams and Miami Dolphins after college but had several off-field troubles and run-ins with the law, is suspected of killing cellmate Damion Soward. Soward was found unresponsive in his cell at 12:46 a.m. Saturday and died Sunday evening at Delano Regional Medical Center.
Phillips, 39, was sentenced in 2008 to 31 years and four months for convictions of inflicting great bodily injury involving domestic violence, spousal abuse, false imprisonment and vehicle theft. Soward was serving a sentence of 82 years to life for murder.
