I found out a long time ago that college students do some crazy things that can’t really be explained. I did my fair share of wild and crazy things during my college years, but I don’t ever think I even fathomed doing what Florida baseball players A.J. Puk and Kirby Snead did.
The two Florida pitchers were arrested for criminal trespassing when they were spotted climbing a construction crane inside of a construction zone.
Sophomores A.J. Puk and Kirby Snead were charged with a third-degree felony after University Police arrested them after climbing a crane inside a marked construction without legal authority, according to records at the Alachua County Jail.
Police took the two players into custody at the site, located near the chemistry lab building, at 11:43 p.m. Sunday. The players were booked at 1:08 a.m. in Alachua County Jail and currently remain there waiting to appear before a judge Monday morning to receive their bond amount.
Puk and Snead have been suspended indefinitely, according to a UF spokesman.
The 6-foot-7, 225-pound Puk, a native of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, earned his team-leading sixth victory during the No. 10 Gators’ 12-5 win Saturday against South Carolina. He also leads UF with 45 strikeouts.
Climbing a construction crane? My first thought is why would they even think to do that in the first place. My second thought would be to not even try to wrap my mind around the reasoning that went behind the act that led two athletes to getting arrested over something that was completely avoidable.
The two players have been suspended in the meantime while they work out their legal issues, hopefully something this dumb won’t get them kicked out of school.
