The crazy thing is he would have gotten away with it if he wasn’t so greedy.
Teofil Brank may have allegedly attempted one of the more egregious and gutsy extortion plots we’ve seen of late. Brank, who goes by the stage name Jarec Wentworth in the gay porn industry, was busted in March for extortion of approximately $1 million, in addition to a sweet car and possibly even a condominium.
In respect of the victim’s right to privacy and the judge’s decision on pretrial motion to keep the victim’s identity secret until the trial begins, we will only refer to him as “D.B.”
It all began when 26-year-old Brank allegedly threatened D.B. that he would post some sexually explicit pictures and very private information on D.B.’s sexual liaisons to the porn star’s Twitter account if D.B. did not meet his demands. Court records show that Brank texted this to D.B.: “I want a new car, motorcycle and both hands full of cash.” As if to prove his point, Brank allegedly posted one rather damning comment about D.B., and then removed the post.
Fearing his reputation, D.B. complied. The first demand was for $500,000 and D.B.’s own Audi R8 luxury car. D.B. wired the money the very next day, and handed over his car. Days later, D.B.’s lawyers called the FBI, as Brank’s demands didn’t cease. He also wanted ownership of a condo and another $1 million in cash. On March 4, a sting operation went down in El Segundo. An undercover agent claiming to be a friend of D.B.’s met Brank in a Starbucks, handing over the title to the Audi R8. He also stated that the additional $1 million was in the trunk of the “friend”‘s car. When they went outside to get the money, agents arrested Brank. On searching Brank’s car, they found a revolver loaded with ammunition.
Not safe out there, be careful.
