Big East 2nd Team guard Sterling Gibbs announced today he will be leaving Seton Hall to complete his Post Graduate Degree elsewhere.
Gibbs led the Pirates in scoring and was 4th in the Big East at 16.3 points per game, as well was 5th in the conference with 3.8 assists.
Gibbs had his high moment as a Pirate by hitting a game winner in the quarterfinals of the 2014 Big East Tournament against the Villanova Wildcats.
Ironically enough, his low moment that overshadowed his great play this year came against the same team.
In early February of 2015, an immature and testy cheap shot with a fist to the face on Wildcats guard Ryan Arcidiacano resulted in a 2 game suspension and Gibbs having to apologize for his actions.

After a strong start 12-2 start for the Pirates, and being ranked as high as 19th in the AP Poll, Kevin Willard’s squad hit a wall. After New Year’s, their record was 5-13, and finished 16-15 overall missing the NCAA tournament.
That losing slump combined by the “punch” and missing the tournament, possibly played a role in Gibbs opting to transfer.
A fresh start could be what both parties need, but this will be a significant blow for Willard and his staff entering next season.
