Golden State Warriors were dominate through 3 quarters of their 106 – 99 victory over New Orleans Pelicans on Saturday. Through 3 quarter Warriors lead grew to 25 points in the 3rd quarter. Inside the Oracle Arena the crowd was what we have learned to expect from Golden State fans loud and rowdy. Possibly the crowd noise helped impact the Pelicans slow start. Pelicans head coach Monty Williams on the crowd noise.
“I’m not so sure that the decibel level is legal there, and I’m serious…They’ve done studies on that. Being on the competition committee, there’s got to be something to that because it does get a little out of hand.”
I don’t think the Warriors are pumping artificial sound ala Atlanta Falcons. Monty went on to praise the fans energy inside Oracle Arena.
“I’ve talked about it for years, you’ve got some of the best fans in the league here, and they show up early. The music before the game, they’re playing old school music, and it’s right above your locker room. And you’re like, ‘These people are crazy, man. This is pretty cool.’ So I’m sure it has an effect, but after a few minutes, it’s just basketball.”
I’m sure the fans had more of an impact than Monty wants to acknowledge. Through the first 3 quarters the Pelicans looked shocked and a little unfocused. Hopefully that great 4th quarter from Superstar Anthony Davis and the rest of the Pelicans is more representative of how the rest of the series will play out.
