Ray Rice is on a road to redeem himself after the February 2014 assault on his then-fiancee at an Atlantic City casino. The video released of him dragging her unconscious body into an elevator sent the NFL into a frenzy and subjected the league and commissioner Roger Goodell to extensive scrutiny regarding how they handle domestic violence. Rice and his wife opened up to New York Magazine in an extensive interview about their ordeal.
One of the things that stood out the most are his feelings of guilt on how Goodell and the NFL as a whole were affected by his actions.
“It’s unfortunate that my actions caused collateral damage that I never could have imagined,” he told me. “Unfortunately, even though I was responsible for creating the situation, commissioner Goodell ended up taking quite a hit for it.”
Though none of this would have happened if Ray Rice would have kept his hands to himself, Goodell handled this extremely poorly and is responsible for the way he reacted.
