This is just terrible.
Way too much violence and way too many guns are flooding our streets. Just tragedy upon tragedy, where young people are losing their lives far too soon. In this case it was just an innocent bystander who was gunned down.
A vigil held Friday for a First Coast High School football player killed last month turned deadly when at least one shooter opened fire.
JSO confirmed to First Coast News that the victim who died in the shooting was Jaquan Reeves, an 18-year-old basketball player for North Florida Educational Institute.
According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, about 20 – 30 people gathered at William F. Sheffield Regional Park in north Jacksonville to honor 17-year-old Johnell Johnson, who was gunned down April 25, when shots suddenly rang out.
When the dust settled around 9 p.m., Reeves was dead and another person, a 17-year-old male, was taken to UF Health.
Thoughts and prayers go out to both of their families.
