Illinois State Redbirds star RB Marshaun Coprich has been suspended from the team indefinitely, after being arrested on felony drug charges. The Chicago Tribune shares the ugly details of the incident:
According to McLean County (Ill.) Circuit Court records, Coprich was charged last week with delivery of more than 10 but less than 30 grams of marijuana. Coprich was released on $2,025 bail and his arraignment on the Class 4 felony charge was scheduled for May 22.
Coprich allegedly sold weed to an undercover narcotics officer. Redbirds head coach, Brock Spack, made the choice to suspend Coprich immediately upon his release, saying the team is disappointed in his actions, but also saying they’d allow the entire process to play out before a final decision is made.
Coprich earned FCS All-American honors last season, setting a school rushing record with 2,274 yards and 27 touchdowns. He was a huge part of a successful season, in-which his Redbirds lost in the National Championship game to North Dakota State, after going 13-2.
