The Atlanta Hawks suffered a major scare during game one against the Cleveland Cavaliers, after DeMarre Carroll went down with what appeared to be a serious injury.
Luckily, Carroll just suffered a hyperextended knee and he’s listed as day-to-day.
As the 28-year-old is set to reach free agency, Carroll is going to have multiple suitors.
However, it appears the Lakers may be pursuing him the hardest.
With his defense and versatility, one league exec estimated his next deal at more than $15 million per year. The Lakers, a source said, have big-time interest in Carroll.
With Kobe potentially retiring next summer, it’s vital for the Lakers to start winning. Los Angeles holds the number two overall pick, which will probably be used on Jahlil Okafor or Karl Anthony-Towns.
Carroll will bring energy, defensive intensity and offensive potential. Making this signing would let ‘Lakers Nation’ know they’re serious about contending soon. Most also believe the Lakers have a good shot at getting Kevin Love as well.
On the flip side, Carroll isn’t young. The small forward is nearing 30 years old and with his recent knee injury, their could be cause for concern there.
He’s averaging 16.2 points, 6.4 rebounds and 2.2 dimes a game during the postseason.
The Celtics and Pistons will both reportedly show interest in Carroll as well.
