Russell and Malissa Williams’ car backfired in front of a Cleveland police station in 2012. The police thought someone fired a gun at them and this led to a high-speed chase. Once the police had the couple pinned down the unloaded 134 shots into their car.
The last of those shots came from Michael Brelo.
Brelo himself shot 49 times into the car. Brelo who said he was in fear of his life, jumped onto the hood of the car after over a 100+ shots had already been fired and shot Russell & Malisa Williams 15 more times at point-blank range. He had time to reload his gun while fearing for his life.
Russell and Malissa Williams were unarmed and never fired a single shot at police.
Brelo was found not guilty today.
LeBron has thoughts on the situation.
“For the city of Cleveland, let’s use our excitement or whatever passion that we have for our sport tomorrow for the game tomorrow night, bring [the passion] to the game tomorrow night, and as our team, we’ll try to do our best to give it back to them,” James told reporters Saturday, according to ESPN.com.
“Violence is not the answer, and it’s all about trying to find a solution for good or for bad,” he added. “For me, in any case, anything that goes on in our world or in our America, the only people that we should be worried about [are] the families that’s lost loved ones. You can’t get them back. You can never get them back. We should worry about the families and how they’re doing and things of that nature.”
I wish the police would have taken LeBron’s advice before they unloaded 134 shots into the car. Violence seems to be the answer for police in many situations that involved unarmed people. The police always want protesters to be rational, calm and understanding, while failing to see that the reason they aren’t is because it is hard to be understanding of public executions happening in their streets.
How do you expect people to be rational, when irrational things are happening? Black people have asked nicely for centuries to be treated fairly & just as equals. Nothing more, nothing less, but that doesn’t seem to be happening, so at some point you get fed up, angry and lash out. That frankly is understandable.
I don’t want anyone to get hurt, white, black or otherwise, but it is hard to be peaceful, when the people who are supposed to protect and serve you have a license to take your life in an instant and never spend a day behind bars for it. It is hard to be peaceful, when a Biker gang can murder a bunch of people and get treated better by police & media than black people protesting kids getting murdered by cops in the streets.
Maybe we will see better days & I get what Bron is trying to do, but when it keeps happening over and over, there is only so much people can take.
It is time for our society to start to realize the reason we are protesting is because VIOLENCE is being done to us.
Stop being violent to us and there wouldn’t be anything for us to violently protest about.
