Mark Sanchez re-signed with the Philadelphia Eagles under the pretense that he’d have an opportunity to compete for the starting quarterback position.
That sentiment hasn’t changed.
Even after Foles was dealt to St. Louis as part of a package for Sam Bradford, who is scheduled to make around $13 million this season.
Despite Bradford’s hefty price tag and possible extension — Sanchez believes the quarterback competition is open.
Asked by Breakfast On Broad’s Rob Ellis if he still expects there to be an open competition despite the presence of Bradford, Sanchez replied: “Absolutely. That’s the way I understand it.”
Sanchez signed a two-year, $9 million deal with the Eagles this offseason that includes $5.5 million in guarantees.
In eight games, he completed a franchise-record 64.1 percent of his passes — the best Sanchez has looked since USC.
