Many questioned if Paul Pierce would return to the NBA next season after a very emotional series versus the Atlanta Hawks. Pierce made a game winner but missed two others during the series that could have advanced the Wizards to the Eastern Conference Finals. Pierce’s comments also led fans to believe he could be leaning towards retirement until now.
It’s being reported by David Aldridge of NBA.com that Pierce is expected to opt out of his contract with the Wizards to finished his career with his former coach Doc Rivers in Los Angeles.
“Washington’s main issue is complacency. The wizards could stand pat if Pierce decides to return to D.C. next season rather than opt out of his deal, but many around the league believe Pierce will do just that and finish his career back him with the Clippers. Either way, the Wizards need long-term solution at power forward to go with their electric backcourt of Wall and Beal and the emerging Porter, who was a terrific 3-and-D man during playoffs and looks ready to claim the small forward spot full-time.”
I could really see Pierce playing with the Clippers. It was reported back in 2014 that he was close to choosing them before signing a two-year deal with the Wizards. It would also give him a chance to return home and play with is former coach Doc Rivers.
