Rafael Furcal signed with the Kansas City Royals last offseason but has decided to retire after playing only 7 games this season for the Royals’ minor league club. Furcal, 37, who played for four major league teams, retirement was announced via Twitter by the Royals.

Furcal had his best season back between 2000-2005 when he was a member of the Atlanta Braves. Furcal was one more well-known shortstops during this time. He showed off his defensive range, extremely strong-arm and top-notch speed game after game helping him win rookie of the year in 2000 and making his first All-Star Team in 2003.
