This is the first of many for new Texas head coach basketball coach Shaka Smart. Smart was able to secure Tevin Mack’s signature once when he was still the head coach at VCU, and after Mack decided to reassess things after Smart’s departure, Smart was able to secure his signature a second time.
After taking a trip to Austin on his own dime, Mack has decided to call Texas home for the next four years.
Tevin Mack informed Scout that he has committed to Texas. Mack is ranked No. 65 overall in Scout's 2015 top 100. Story coming.

This is a big pickup for Shaka Smart and Texas, as the Longhorns are lacking athletic wings that can help stretch the floor and fill up the stat sheet. Mack is a Top 100 recruit and a Top 50 recruit for some recruiting services, so anytime you can get guys like him to sign on the dotted line you do it and don’t think twice.
The next question for Texas will be if they will sign another recruit for this recruiting class, or will they hold off for the next class. The early buzz is that they could be going after another to close up strong.
