Chip Kelly hates to lose, but he might have to take this one on the chin.
The Eagles coach was on the losing end of a $99,000 judgment this week after his landlord took him to court for breaking his lease to early.
The dispute revolved around whether or not Kelly gave proper notice when he moved out of his penthouse apartment in April 2014.
Under Kelly’s lease agreement, he had to give at least three months notice before moving out of the $10,700-a-month apartment he began renting in April 2013.
Kelly decided to move out after a year, but he didn’t give written notice to landlord Tempa Berish.
The lease agreement made it clear that if Kelly didn’t give proper written notice about moving out, then the lease would automatically be renewed for another year.
Kelly was therefore responsible for another 12 months of $11,235-per-month or a rent increase of five percent over the year before.
Kelly loses $20,000 he spent on a security deposit as well.
