Draymond Green is said to be the vocal leader of the Golden State Warriors.
In fact, current head coach Steve Kerr has even gone as far to say that Green is the “heart and soul” of the Warriors.
Which is why it speaks volumes when Green gets in front of a mic and calls out his team’s effort like this:
Draymond Green wasn’t in the most pleasant mood after the Golden State Warriors’ Game 3 loss on Tuesday, telling a reporter he was off base in questioning if the Dubs needed to “pump each other up.”
On Wednesday, the struggling forward changed his tune a bit during media availability.
“This isn’t the time to be quiet,” Green told reporters. “Everybody should speak up. You be quiet now, you’ll be home in a couple days.”
…
But despite his own shortcomings in the series so far… Green isn’t letting his teammates off the hook. He basically echoed Kobe Bryant’s tweet Wednesday, lamenting that the Dubs aren’t playing with the same intensity as the Cavaliers.“Who dove on the floor? (Matthew) Dellavedova,” Green said. “Who dove on the floor for the other loose ball? Dellavedova. Who dove on the floor? Mike Miller.”
He’s got a point regarding all of the loose balls and general lack of intensity. While I’m not sure going to the media is the right way to get his teammates attention, Green presumably knows a lot more about how to work with them than me.
The 4th quarter of Game 3 his team finally showed some life, but it seems as though they haven’t brought that same Warriors-swagger with them to the biggest stage.
Perhaps they’re star struck. Or, perhaps they just needed a wake up call from one of their most emotional leaders. We’ll find out more come Thursday night.
Regardless of outcome, you can expect a much more hyped Warriors team to begin the game.
