David Blatt is a rookie head coach in the NBA who has led the Cavs to the Finals but has struggled at time to win over new fan here in the states. Blatt is working to make a name for himself here but his support system in Israel is 8 million strong. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reached out to coach Blatt last week confirming that 8 million of his countrymen support him and the Cavs.
“He said all of Israel is behind the Cavaliers,” said coach Blatt. “That was great”
Blatt had dual citizenship in the United States (where he was born) and in Israel where his family still lives and where he has most of his coaching experience.
Blatt told Northeast Ohio Media Group that he knows Netanyahu well enough to call him by his nickname “Bibi”.
“I have been fortunate enough to hear from the Prime Ministers of Israel, to the then Prime Minister and president of Russia and there’s nothing I would like better than to hear from President Barack Obama.”
Coach Blatt was also invited to visit The Prime Minister next time he is in Israel as well as the Cavs being welcomed to play against The Prime Minister’s Office basketball team.
